From Cop
to Courtroom
to Wisdom
Lawyer. Former police investigator. Mediator. Negotiator. Coach. Educator.
Different roles. One continuing path: understanding people, decisions, conflict, pressure, and change.
How I Think. How I Work.
Clear. Direct. Honest.
I believe real change starts from the inside out.
First, we understand what is happening.
Then we become aware of it.
Then we practice.
Then change becomes possible.
A few principles behind my work:
- Understanding comes first. Then awareness. Then practice. Then change.
- The session is not the work. The real work happens in your life between sessions.
- I teach what I do.
-
The goal is not dependency. The goal is to help you understand, apply, and eventually continue on your own.
No performance. No pretending. What you see is what you get.

Who I Am
Mark Petek
My path has taken me through policing, criminal investigations, law, mediation, negotiation, teaching, coaching, and personal development.
For more than 30 years, I have worked in environments where decisions, pressure, conflict, responsibility, and human behavior matter.
At 41, I was diagnosed with a brain AVM (an artery-to-vein malformation). Four years later, it ruptured. Three surgeries, partial loss of sight, isolation during the pandemic, and major changes in my personal life followed.
That period became a turning point for me. I became much more aware of how much stress I had carried, how hard I had worked, and how much pressure had become normal in my life.
It also brought me much closer to the reality of death and made me question the purpose and direction of my life much more deeply.
I learned the hardest negotiation is always with yourself.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is this therapy?
No. Coaching, guidance, mentoring, and advisory are not therapy.
Our work focuses on understanding your situation, recognizing patterns, making decisions, and applying what you learn in real life.
When guidance, teaching, mentoring, or advice is appropriate, we make that distinction clear.
The final decisions always remain yours, because all decisions are within you; we just help you uncover them with different methods and approaches
Are you a certified life coach?
Yes. I’m certified in Life and Mindset Coaching, Emotional Intelligence, and Conflict Management, and I’m also a certified mediator and negotiator.
My professional background includes law enforcement, criminal investigations, law, mediation, negotiation, teaching, and personal development.
In my work, I use professional coaching methods and principles together with guidance, teaching, mentoring, and, when appropriate, advisory.
When I conduct formal coaching sessions, I follow ICF coaching principles and standards. When I move into guidance, mentoring, teaching, or advisory, I make that distinction clear.
Who is this work for?
We work with people who want to understand themselves and their situation more clearly, work seriously on what matters, and apply what they learn in real life.
Some come because of stress, recurring problems, major decisions, relationships, a need for direction, discipline, or a period of change.
Each person’s starting point is different.
How long does meaningful change take?
That depends on the person, the situation, and the depth of the work.
Some changes are visible within days or weeks; bigger changes take more time; months or even years.
In our experience, more substantial change often begins to develop around six months, while deeper patterns may take a year or several years of continued work.
The goal is not speed for its own sake, but real change that can hold in everyday life.
Do you work online or in person?
Most coaching and advisory work can be done online.
In-person work may also be possible depending on the type of work, location, and the arrangement we agree on.
Elite Private Advisory may also include in-person work, travel, and other forms of support as part of the broader process.
What is the best way to begin?
You do not need to decide everything before you begin.
You can start with a structured program, private coaching, or one of the free guides, depending on where you are now and how you want to work.
If you want personal guidance, start with the Coaching page and choose the path that makes the most sense for you.
